Personal Profile

I have been playing the piano since I was five and for many years studied under Elfreda Griggs in Witham, where my dad (also one of my piano tutors from an early age) used to take me from our home in Braintree for many years. I left school to study History and Literature at Canterbury University for my BA in 1984 and later took a post-graduate diploma in librarianship to become a Chartered Librarian specialising in music.
Music has always been with me and while working at the Colchester Institute library I was fortunate to meet Francis Reneau who had come here from Belize and who took me on as a student until I left to move to Norfolk where I was Assistant Librarian in the Norwich library in charge of cataloging music.
Whilst in Norwich I met Kenneth Ryder , organist at the prestigious St Peter Mancroft Church, and continued my piano and organ studies with him for some years. Coming back to Essex where I turned to a long held desire to learn more about horticulture and after two years study at Writtle College, one of which (two days a week) gaining experience on a large private estate on the Stour estuary, I gained an RHS qualification, which helps me to fill in my time.
I took more organ lessons locally and made song sheets to play and sing in retirement homes. I became a member of Braintree Catholic Church Choir and was their organist from 1987 to 2000 playing at many services, weddings and funerals in that time.
Personal Profile 4
During the last 20 years I've been a member of various choirs and also took singing lessons with Elizabeth Stokes, a qualified and well established local operatic and choral singer in Coggeshall, who helped me through my Grade 7 singing.
I've continued playing organ for various services at many different churches, I play at retirement homes, give piano lesson and I have also managed to intersperse my musical abilities with some horticultural work.
In the various moves I have made I have always kept up my piano and organ and have been extremely fortunate to be able to find such excellent tutors and mentors in my preferred field of music.
I'm now studying for a music degree and plan to move further in that direction.
